Exactly 70 years after David Ben Gurion declared Israel’s independence, the USA opened its embassy in Jerusalem, thus officially recognising the city as the 3,000 year old capital of the State of Israel.

Speaking to the diplomats, dignitaries, and politicians gathered before the opening, Prime Minister Netanyahu declared, “President Trump is making history… Our people will be eternally grateful for his bold decision.”

President calls Day of Prayer for Texas

For the second issue running HEART is able to show a photo of US President Trump being prayed for, although some Christians and the secular media voice their disapproval of his past persona and current style.

This time he is shown after asking for prayer from pastors when he had declared a National Day of Prayer for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, which took place on Sunday 3 September.

The storm devastated Texas, particularly Houston, followed by another hurricane, Irma, which cut off power to 6.5 million people in Florida, after ripping through the Caribbean islands. Read More

Trump’s travel ban

A leading US Christian campaign group has stated that President Trump’s ban on visitors from a number of mainly Muslim countries is not anti-Muslim but anti-terrorism. Jay Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice says the ban “is a massive victory for our national security”.

However, there have been protests by church groups concerned that Chaldean Christians are being deported to Iraq where they are in danger from Isis. A group of evangelical Christian organisations and others signed a letter in June to Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly expressing their “grave concern that Christians will be removed from the United States to face potential persecution, and even death, in the Middle East.” Read More
