Rehman Chishti – appointed by Boris Johnson to defend religious freedom

The Prime Minister has appointed Rehman Chishti MP as the new Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief.

His brief includes the implementation of the recommendations in the report on persecuted Christians by the Bishop of Truro, which outgoing Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt and his deputy Alan Duncan had pledged to implement (see HEART Aug/Sept).

The Conservative MP has often raised religious freedom questions in parliament, in particular the case of Pakistani Christian Asia Bibi.
