The Episcopal Church in the US has been told by the Church of England that there will be “stringent consequences” if gender neutral wedding services are approved at a General Convention in July.

C of E General Secretary William Nye has warned that the Episcopalians’ place in global Anglicanism could be under threat if they replace the words “husband and wife” with “the union of two people” in ceremonies.
