FREE COPIES OF THE QU’RAN have been given away in four-page wraparounds placed in three local English newspapers.

Archant newspaper group’s the Cambs Times, Ely Standard and Wisbech Standard all featured the advert last month, February.

Hold the Front Page reports that a Luton-based organisation bought the advert ‘extolling the religion of Muhammad’.

Editor John Elworthy received a few complaints but said similar adverts by the Luton organisation have appeared in other newspapers by the Archant group in the past 18 months. He believed most readers don’t ‘bat an eyelid’ and said, “The service is available for any group or organisation and why wouldn’t we accept that advert? At the end of the day it’s a book and we neither endorse nor attack it.”
