Redeeming Our Communities (ROC) and the three village churches in Lindfield have joined forces to launch a new ROC Care project. This new venture began in April with around 40 elderly people dropping in to the United Reformed Church Centre for refreshments and a chat together.

Peter Diack, the local project coordinator, said: “Research has shown that weekends can be a lonely time for many of our senior citizens, so we want to provide opportunity for folk to come along, get to know each other and make friends. We shall be adding interesting activities for those who wish to participate.”

Paul Wilson, ROC’s South East Development Director said: “Using the banner of ROC we are planning to have regular input from a variety of local services such as Police, Fire Brigade, Citizen’s Advice Bureau, all communicating helpful advice to the elderly, especially to those living alone. Our aim as we become more established is for ROC to help initiate a home visiting scheme in this area for people who are particularly vulnerable.”
