The Government’s Counter Extremism Bill is a danger to evangelicals, says the Christian Institute.

Under the proposed legislation, which threatens free speech and religious liberty, Christians who follow the Bible’s teaching could face police interrogation.

The warning comes not just from the Christian charity, but David Anderson QC, the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation. He says that people who are “miles away from terrorism” could be classed as extremists and “the police are going to feel they have to investigate all sorts of people who… may just practise religion in a conservative way.”

He noted that communism wasn’t banned during the Cold War.
