How Hitler’s anti-semitic baton was passed to an extremist mufti in Jerusalem, VE Day, Britain’s 7/7 terror anniversary, pro-Hamas local councillors elected and Israelis forced to sign a monstrous disclaimer in Japan.
How the West is doing a deal with the devil
By Charles Gardner
Sharing the Gospel is no picnic. Jesus sent out his first disciples as “sheep among wolves”, which means ravenous enemies of God are waiting around every corner to tear us to pieces. We have just celebrated 80 years since the end of the war in Europe when Germany finally surrendered to the Allies’ relentless bombardment which reduced its cities to rubble.
But the white flag had hardly been raised before Hitler’s baton was passed to another antisemitic would-be empire builder who wanted to take over the West. Britain had been given the awesome responsibility of preparing a national homeland for the persecuted Jews. But as soon as it became clear that a Jewish state was in the offing, Arab opposition mounted. Mobs rioted and Jews were mercilessly attacked, as is still happening today. It was no secret that Jerusalem’s Grand Mufti (Islamic leader) Haj Amin Al-Husseini colluded with Hitler in plans to exterminate the Jews.
The Muslim mullah succeeded in persuading the British to severely limit Jewish immigration, but the God of Israel came to the rescue of his ancient people, and a new nation was miraculously born – even winning the support of the UN despite Britain’s shameful abstention. But it failed to resolve the Middle East conflict. Seventy-seven years later, Israel cannot ignore repeated brutal incursions into her territory from a group committed to the Jews’ destruction. Yet politicians expect Israel’s politicians to negotiate a ceasefire with Hamas when, really, what is required of evil entities is surrender, as with the Nazis. These butchers have absolutely no desire to live at peace with their Jewish neighbours and have the blood of every innocent child killed in the crossfire on their hands. Demanding a negotiated ceasefire would have been like telling the Allies to stop short of victory and leave Hitler in power of a weakened Germany, according to South Africa’s Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein. It sends a very dangerous message to jihadi terrorists – that “no matter what evil you perpetrate, you will always be able to extract compromises and concessions”. In other words, it tells them that terror works! All of which, the rabbi says, dramatically increases the chances of a massive terror attack on Western nations.
As Israel is abandoned to the “savage wolves” of Hamas, the US, UK and EU are strengthening the forces of terror – “and the next target will be the West itself”. To seek compromise between Israel and Hamas, he said, is to do a deal with the devil. So Israel is left alone to fight the battle for Western civilisation. Even Iranian religious scholar Masoud Aali, who wants the West to fall, understands this. Israel is the fortress of the West, he told IRINN TV: “If you manage to conquer it, you can conquer the West.”
Victory in Europe was won in the air; and I don’t just mean through the Battle of Britain, but in the heavenly realms as our people turned out en masse to pray in response to the call of the godly King George VI. But we have since lost the plot. After triumphing over evil through faith in the God of Israel, we have facilitated another antisemitic invasion of our country without a shot being fired. If pro-Palestinian marchers get their way, we will be robbed of the liberty gained by so much sacrifice in the last war. Ever more aware of Islamic influence, our politicians continue to appease those who seek to undermine our Judeo-Christian foundations. Absurd concessions now include talk of forbidding negative views of Islam while continuing to turn a blind eye to the constant blasphemy of our Lord Jesus Christ, on whose teaching our great nation is built.
“As we approach the 20th anniversary of the 7/7 (7 July 2005) atrocity on London’s transport system, which left 52 dead and 700 injured including my younger brother, it’s surely time to stand up to the Nazi voices of our day”
Our weakness on these matters has already been rewarded by a series of horrific terrorist attacks. As we approach the 20th anniversary of the 7/7 (7 July 2005) atrocity on London’s transport system, which left 52 dead and 700 injured including my younger brother, it’s surely time to stand up to the Nazi voices of our day. The 8 May 2025 also marks a dark day in British history – the day, in 1222, when a Church synod passed anti-Jewish laws which eventually led to the expulsion of Jews from this country in 1290.
Over 20 years ago, I was working with colleagues on plans to launch a national newspaper covering events from a biblical perspective. We produced a series of dummies as we sought to raise the finance, and I still have a laminated copy of one of the front pages. It was produced just weeks after the 9/11 terror attacks on New York’s Twin Towers, with a dramatic photo of a man standing in the rubble of the fallout. For the first time since then, I noticed the dateline at the top of the page – 7 October 2001!
When, exactly 22 years later, Hamas terrorists invaded Israel to commit an indescribably evil act, it was widely billed as Israel’s 9/11.
Our very civilisation is now at stake. The baton Christians need to take up is that of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, martyred 80 years ago as he spoke up so bravely for the Jewish people (see my article on Bonhoeffer, ‘The sound of silence’,in the last issue – April/May 2025). Could the consequences of failing to bless the Jews perhaps result in the curse of an alien culture that robs us of freedom to think, speak and act in our best interests?

To mark the 80th anniversary of victory in Europe, a carousel of life lessons from the ‘Greatest Generation’ second World War veterans was beamed on to the iconic giant screens at Piccadilly Circus, featuring a portrait of Henny Franks. This 101-year-old Holocaust survivor is one of seven veterans whose service was celebrated in a campaign from the Ministry of Defence (MOD).
Pro-Hamas candidates win four local council seats
Pro-Hamas candidates won four seats in Lancashire County elections, three of them while running as independents. Eighteen-year-old Maheen Kamran was elected a councillor for Burnley Central East with 1,357 votes. A devout Muslim, she told media outlet PoliticsHome she had been inspired to enter politics by the war in Gaza, where she claimed Israel was committing a “genocide”.
Yet Israel takes measures to protect Gaza’s civilian population that no army has ever taken in wartime and Hamas uses its civilians as human shields in order to raise the death toll so that international pressure will be brought on the Jewish state to end the conflict.
Another Muslim, Usman Arif, who won the Burnley North-East seat, had left the Labour Party over its moderately pro-Israel stance.
Time’s tribute to brave Noa
Noa Argamani (pictured), the Israeli woman whose harrowing abduction by Hamas on 7 October 2023 shocked the world, has been named one of Time magazine’s ‘100 Most Influential People of 2025’. Noa’s inclusion not only recognises her personal strength, but also her growing role as a global advocate for the release of hostages still held in Gaza. Her commendation was further endorsed by Douglas Emhoff, husband of former US Vice President Kamala Harris. Emhoff, who is Jewish, penned a tribute to Noa, describing the viral video of her abduction from the Nova music festival as an image “seared into my soul” and noting how her post-rescue activism has turned her from a victim into a powerful voice for justice.
Held hostage for 245 days, Noa was eventually freed with two male hostages through Operation Arnon, a daring raid by the IDF. The rescue, which took place under heavy fire from their Hamas captors, cost the life of an IDF officer and was criticised by Western media for causing around 70 casualties.
One of Noa’s first questions was whether her mother, Liora, who had been battling terminal cancer, was still alive. Tragically, she had died before their reunion could happen.
Noa has since become a beacon of advocacy, speaking for the nearly 60 hostages still in captivity, including her partner Avinatan Or. “Noa’s advocacy has illuminated Hamas’ extreme brutality,” Emhoff wrote, “but more importantly, her bravery has embodied Jewish strength even in the worst moments.” (17.4.25 Israfan)
Mass murder call
A Gaza-based BBC Arabic contributor called for Nazi-style mass murder of Jews in a series of social media posts which have recently resurfaced. Samer Elzaenen, 33, has appeared on BBC Arabic over a dozen times since 7 October 2023, according to The Telegraph, vowing on Facebook in May 2011 that “We love death for Allah’s sake the same way you love life. We shall burn you as Hitler did, but this time we won’t have a single one of you left.” (WIN, 27.4.25)
Meanwhile BBC Arabic reporter Ahmed Alagha was outed as an unapologetic antisemite as The Telegraph revealed a host of his online posts defending Hamas atrocities and referring to Jews as ‘devils’. (WIN, 6.4.25)
Fears of school bias on Gaza
Britain’s largest teaching union has sparked fears for Jewish pupils after vowing to produce school resources to ‘raise awareness’ of the situation in ‘Palestine’. The National Education Union voted to develop materials for its half-a-million members to use in classrooms about the ongoing conflict in Gaza. However, one of its own members accused the union of presenting a ‘one-sided’ and ‘anti-Israel’ view, saying the plans could fuel antisemitism in schools. (Daily Mail, 15.4.25)
Japanese hotel forces Israeli guests to sign disclaimer
A hotel in the Japanese city of Kyoto has insisted an Israeli tourist sign an official declaration denying involvement in war crimes including murder, rape and attacks on civilians. The bizarre declaration also referenced “any other acts that fall under Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.” The tourist initially refused to sign the document, but Wind Villa Guest House would not allow him to check in without doing so.
