Church rector David McClay says he and his family have received abusive phone calls and have been accused of running a ‘gay therapy’ course.

Willowfield Parish Church in Belfast hosted The Living Out Course, an Evangelical Alliance seminar, in March. Designed for church leaders, it shows how they can help Christians with same-sex attractions to remain celibate.

McClay told The Belfast Telegraph: “We have been totally misrepresented by what has been posted on social media.”

Peter Lynas, Director of the Evangelical Alliance in Northern Ireland, commented: “This event does not feature conversion, reparative or ‘gay cure’ therapy. No efforts are being made to change anyone’s sexuality and reports to the contrary are false and misleading.”
