The new funding for low-income Northern Irish women to travel to England for an abortion has stunned Christian campaign group CARE.

CARE explained that the UK Government “does not have a mandate” to intervene and is “riding roughshod” over Northern Ireland law. Abortion is a devolved issue in the province where the governing DUP (Democratic Unionist Party),which is propping up the Conservative government in Westminster, is against abortion on demand.

Since June, women in Northern Ireland have been entitled to an abortion in England on the NHS, regardless of their income.
